I won't bore you with the details of failure or my personal interpretation of failure because let's face it, failure is no stranger to any of us. We have all experienced our own form of failure in same way, shape, or form, but the difference between us is how we deal with it. Often times when we experience failure we also experience disappointment and these emotions are magnified especially if we find the fault within ourselves. We start to rationalize the situation or even regret getting into the situation in the first place. This is where the emotional stress comes into play and the end of the world almost feels like it is actually happening in that very moment.
Does this sound familiar to you? This has happened to me more times than I can remember (sometimes I still struggle with this), but just when failure feels like the end of the world, I try to remind myself that failure is only the beginning. Its the beginning of a new direction that God has in store for me and I am given another opportunity to get it right. We can all walk around and say "I'm fearless" "I'm bold", but are you really? Are you really living your life without the fear of failure? How often do you put yourself out there without a safety net or comfort? But more importantly how often do you put your craft out there? You know, your craft. That thing that you are crazy talented in and no one can do like you. The thing that keeps you up late at night because you are just that excited about how if could impact the world.
I thought of a few things to remember when I need to survive failure and I hope it will help you too.
You are not alone. Everyone has moments of failure and you are capable of surviving this moment and moving forward.
Failure is included in the recipe of success. Failure is one of the requirements that no one is exempt from. Success comes through trial and error. Accept that you will have roadblocks in the road, therefore they will not catch you off guard.
Learn from your failure. This is your life and your experiences, so take the time to learn from your failures. It is important in order to continue on your success path. Dissect, learn, and move on. A personal journal can be incredibly helpful to guide you through your feelings.
DO NOT CARRY YOUR DISAPPOINTMENT. You do not need to pack your disappointment and wear it everywhere you go. You do not have the room nor the time to carry such a burden on yourself. Unpack it, leave it where it is, and carry on.
Failure is not the end of the world. Not accepting that will be. (theorically)
I would love to hear from you! Have you ever struggled with surviving your failure? Do you still have a hard time with it or do you have ways that help you survive it? Please let me know in the comments below.
